Attorney for nightclub owner says the capacity of The Station never exceeded its legal limit
Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

(Providence-AP) -- An attorney for nightclub owner Jeffrey Derderian says the capacity of The Station never exceeded its legal limit of 404.

Attorney Jeff Pine said yesterday he believes the number of people inside the West Warwick club when it caught fire in February was closer to 350.

Pines comments came a day after The Providence Journal published a story that put the capacity at 412.

Joel Rawson is the newspapers senior vice president and executive editor. He stands by the story.

The Journalďż˝s list included the names of the 100 killed.  Additional names were compiled through interviews with lawyers, survivors and relatives of survivors.

Rawson says all of the names were verified, and when the Journal could not verify a name, it was left off the list.

He says the Journal received a handful of additional calls or e-mails from people who say they were there but were not on the list. The Journal is verifying that information.
