Bush seeks Iraq backing at U-N, on Capitol Hill

White House-AP -- President Bush looks for backing on Iraq this week at the United Nations and on Capitol Hill. He is speaking to the U-N General Assembly tomorrow -- to urge other nations to step up with troops and cash to help in Iraq's post-war rebuilding.
The president hopes an agreement can be reached soon on a Security Council resolution authorizing such help.
Meantime, lawmakers this week are expected to take up Bush's request for 87 (b) billion dollars for Iraq and Afghanistan. The money would cover military operations and reconstruction.
Coming at a time of record deficits, the big cash request has prompted even Republicans to promise "tough questions." However, approval is expected.
