Koizumi names new Cabinet

Tokyo-AP -- Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi (joon-ee-chee-roh koh-ee-zoo-mee) has named a new Cabinet, including a new finance minister. Emboldened by a new mandate after winning re-election to a three-year term as head of the ruling party, Koizumi has vowed to move ahead with his efforts to cut government spending and carry out broad structural reforms.
Koizumi has indicated he would like to call parliamentary elections as early as November. That would set up a long-awaited showdown with Japan's political opposition that could further bolster the ruling party's power in Parliament.
