Kabul, Afghanistan-AP -- The Taliban's supreme commander has reportedly been meeting with other leaders about reorganizing their war against U-S forces and the current Afghan government. A spokesman claiming to be speaking for Mullah Mohammed Omar (MOO'-lah moh-HAHM'-ed oh-MAHR') says a council -- or shura (SHOO'-ruh) -- has appointed four committees to oversee military, political, cultural and economic areas.
The spokesman delivered the news in a call to Associated Press reporters in Afghanistan and Pakistan. One of the reporters says he recognized the man's voice as a Taliban militant.
The spokesman said he was calling from outside Afghanistan. He offered no information on where Omar was holding his meetings.
A senior Afghan intelligence officer says he thinks today's message is part of a psychological ploy to get a message out that there are some operations under way.
The U-S-led coalition lists Omar as one of its top most wanted men, along with terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden and his al-Qaida lieutenants.
