Former Wembley executive sues company
(Brighton, Colorado-AP) -- A former executive of Wembley U-S-A has sued the company. She claims she was forced to resign last year after testifying before a federal grand jury investigating bribery allegations surrounding a Rhode Island dog track.
Patricia Emerson filed the lawsuit last month. She had worked for Aurora-based Wembley U-S-A since 1993. She became its acting chief financial officer in 2001.
In the lawsuit, she contends she was pressured to quit in part because of her testimony.
Wembley says the company plans to vigorously defend itself against the lawsuit.
Wembley U-S-A runs four racetracks in Colorado. Its parent Wembley P-L-C runs a track at Lincoln Park in Rhode Island.
Earlier this week, the chief executive of Wembley P-L-C was indicted on federal bribery charges along with a racetrack official in Rhode Island.
The two are accused of plotting to pay four-point-five (m) million dollars in an attempt to get more slot machines at Lincoln Park.
