Boston-area residents named in 46 of 251 lawsuits
(Washington-AP) -- Eighteen percent of the people sued by a music industry group for sharing songs on the Internet are from the Boston-area.
The Recording Industry Association of America filed 251 lawsuits yesterday as part of an aggressive crackdown on music piracy. Forty-six of the defendants live in or around Boston, including Noor Alaujan of Cambridge. He was charged with illegally sharing more than 900 songs, including "Work It Out" by Beyonce Knowles, "Love Shack" by the B-52's and Frank Sinatra's "I've Got You Under My Skin."
Those named in the suits face potentially devastating civil penalties or settlements that could cost them tens of thousands of dollars.
