Push-ups, screaming out for Air Force Academy freshmen
Air Force Academy, Colorado-AP -- This year's freshmen at the Air Force Academy in Colorado will have it a little easier than their peers in years past. No more being screamed at by upperclassmen or endless push-ups.
The changes are part of a series of reforms that follow -- but are not directly linked -- to claims that school leaders ignored rape reports from female cadets. The new Commandant of Cadets says the scrutiny led to some needed changes.
Freshmen have traditionally endured a rite of passage that means hours of push-ups, running, and reciting Air Force knowledge. Those who pass become real cadets, no longer forced to eat at attention or run everywhere.
This year's freshmen will get a two-day training event, details to be announced.
