Tensions high in the West Bank
Jerusalem-AP -- There's new tension in the West Bank, as Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon prepares to meet with President Bush today at the White House. An eleven-year-old Israeli girl was wounded today when Palestinian gunmen opened fire on a car near a Jewish settlement.
Meanwhile, Israeli-Arab politicians are condemning the killing of a soldier whose body was found yesterday in northern Israel. Police suspect the 20-year-old who vanished July 21st was abducted by Palestinians or Israeli Arabs.
Yesterday, soldiers fired tear gas and rubber bullets at Palestinian protesters trying to cut through a security fence. Israel says it's building the fence to stop militants from attacking civilians -- but Palestinians say the move jeopardizes the U-S-backed peace plan.
