Report: Beijing's last 12 SARS patients declared free of the disease
Beijing-AP -- China is reporting more progress in recovering from the SARS epidemic. State-run media say the last 12 SARS patients in Beijing have been declared free of the respiratory disease. But they're still being treated for kidney and heart problems they had before getting SARS.
The story appeared on newspaper front pages, along with the Chinese president's announcement that the defeat of SARS in China was a victory for the Communist Party.
Before subsiding last month, SARS killed more than 340 people on China's mainland and sickened more than five thousand. About half the deaths were in Beijing, the hardest-hit city in the world.
