U-S troops capture Saddam bodyguard
Tikrit, Iraq-AP -- More details about some key arrests made by American soldiers in Saddam Hussein's northern Iraqi hometown of Tikrit (tih-KREET'). U-S soldiers have arrested a bodyguard who had rarely left Saddam's side. The raid in Tikrit also captured a security chief from the former regime and a militia leader.
A U-S military officer describes the captured bodyguard (Adnan Abdullah Abid al-Musslit) as "one of Saddam's lifelong bodyguards." Soldiers fired two shots before charging into a home to capture the man. The U-S officer says he tried to resist and soldiers wrestled him down.
He was taken from the home minutes later, bleeding and dressed only in his underwear and a T-shirt. Several other people were seen being taken into custody in near-simultaneous raids on other houses in the heart of Tikrit. It's not clear how many men in all were arrested.
