Myers: Central Iraq still a 'war zone'
New Delhi, India-AP -- The top U-S military commander says central Iraq is still a war zone. General Richard Myers -- the Joint Chiefs chairman -- tells reporters in India that most of the security incidents in Iraq are in an area from Baghdad to Tikrit.
Myers says calling that area a war zone doesn't contradict President Bush, who declared that major combat was over on May first. Since then, 49 American troops have been killed in combat, the latest just yesterday.
Myers says Bush used specific language referring to the end of "major conflicts."
