New research suggests link between breast cancer and fat consumption
London-AP -- Too much fat in a woman's diet may be a risk factor for breast cancer, after all. A new study from England concludes that women whose diets include more than 90 grams of fat a day have about double the risk of developing breast cancer as women who eat less fat.
Investigators who conducted the study at Britain's Cambridge University say their research is more accurate than previous studies that ruled out a link, because it's based on a more precise method of measuring diets. It looked at 13-thousand women who recorded their diets over a four-year period.
Critics still contend the study is too small to overturn vast research that concluded diet plays little or no role in the risk of breast cancer. But some cancer experts think the question needs to be addressed further.
The study is published in the "Lancet" medical journal.
