L-A holds its smoggy breath waiting for decision on Kobe Bryant

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

(Los Angeles-AP) _ Lakers fans and everyday Los Angelinos will have their eyes on a small town in Colorado today for a decision on whether Kobe Bryant will be charged with sexual assault.

The Eagle County district attorney, who's been mulling it over for about two weeks, will announce this afternoon whether he plans to prosecute Bryant.

The Lakers star turned himself in and was arrested July fourth after a 19-year-old woman told police he had assaulted her four days earlier at a Colorado resort.

Bryant, who's free on 25-thousand dollars bail, has told the Los Angeles Times he "would never do something like that."

The people of Los Angeles believe him. Bryant is immensely popular because his basketball magic is accompanied by an upbeat attitude, an easygoing manner and an apparently conventional family life.
