Monrovia, Liberia-AP -- With a peace deal deadline delayed, there are reports of fresh fighting near Liberia's capital. Renewed fighting has sent people fleeing towards the capital for the third time in just over a month.
The government has accused rebels of launching a new push for the capital. But rebels deny that claim. They say they're only defending their own positions from attack.
Sporadic explosions could be heard as a steady stream of refugees flowed across the bridge over a river marking the outer border of the capital.
Liberia's military chief says rebels are just 12 miles from the capital.
The new fighting comes as negotiators pushed back a deadline for a political settlement in Liberia from today to Tuesday.
