National team releases progress report on fire investigation
(Providence-AP) -- A federal team investigating the fire at The Station nightclub is releasing a progress report today.
The Commerce Departments National Institute of Standards and Technology hopes to determine how the building failed and how that may have caused so many casualties.
One hundred people died from the February fire.
Over the past six months, the team has used smoke and fire behavior software to create a preliminary computerized reconstruction of the fire.
The team seeks outside experts to document how the club was evacuated, and to look at the buildings structural design.
The team also is collecting data on the emergency response to the fire.
The teams findings could be used as recommendations to change building codes, standards and practices.
But they can NOT be used as evidence in any criminal trial or lawsuit stemming from the fire.
