Street Closures in Downtown Providence for Saturday, July 12th, 2003

On Saturday, July 12th, 2003, the City of Providence will be hosting the second annual Cox Charities Cycling Classic, which will take place in the downtown district. Therefore, the Providence Police Department is putting the following travel and parking restrictions in effect Saturday, July 12th, 2003, from 8:30 AM till 5:30 PM in Downtown Providence:

  • Travel on upper Francis Street between American Express Way and Gaspee Street will be limited to one lane in each direction
  • Gaspee Street will be completely closed to traffic between Francis Street and Smith Street.
  • Travel on Smith Street between Gaspee and Canal Street will be limited to one lane, westbound only.
  • Travel on Canal Street between Smith Street and Steeple Street will be limited to one lane in the southbound direction.
  • The westbound side of Memorial Boulevard between Steeple Street and Exchange Street will be completely closed.
  • Exchange Street between Memorial Boulevard and American Express Way will be completely closed.
  • American Express Way from Francis Street to Exchange Street will be completely closed.
  • There will be parking restrictions on all of the above roads, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on July 12th. Cars left on these roads will be towed as of 8:00 a.m.
  • The Providence Train Station, Avalon at Center Place, and the Citizens Bank Building will be accessed only via Park Row from North Main Street.
  • Event parking for competitors and spectators will be available at the State Offices lot across from the State House on Smith Street, and the lot adjacent to Canal Street accessed via Park Row.
