AAA predicts big July Fourth weekend on roads, decline in air travel
Grapevine, Texas-AP -- How "Fifties" can you get? The auto club Triple-A says the Fourth of July weekend and summer travel in general seems to be about loading people into the car and driving to the beach or grandma's.
Triple-A predicts Fourth of July weekend trips of 50 miles or more will be at their highest level in at least nine years, with nearly 37 and a-half (m) million people making those trips. That's up about two percent from last year.
The auto club expects air travel to be down by two percent, although some in the industry say they expect a boost.
The increase in auto traffic is predicted despite gasoline prices averaging just under a buck-50 a gallon. That's about a dime more expensive than last year.
