Big shake-up at NASA in wake of shuttle `Columbia' disaster
Johnson Space Center-AP -- Big changes at NASA in the wake of the "Columbia" disaster five months ago. Many managers at the Johnson Space Center have been reassigned, and some new positions were created.
New shuttle manager Bill Parsons says the changes are aimed at getting the remaining fleet of three shuttles flying again.
The agency hopes to resume flights early next year.
In the biggest move, veteran flight director Wayne Hale returns to Texas from Florida, where he had been put in charge of launch preparations. Hale will become Parsons' deputy.
The independent board probing the accident will issue more recommendations about NASA management. The board's report is due out later this month.
