F-T-C reports ten (m) million registrations for its do-not-call list
Washington-AP -- More and more American consumers are putting telemarketers on permanent hold. More than ten (m) million people have registered with the new federal "do-not-call" list in the first four days of the program.
The Federal Trade Commission says that's 158 people signing up every second, a response the agency calls "phenomenal."
About 85 percent of the registrations were done online at w-w-w-dot-do not call-dot-gov.
The F-T-C is reporting that some consumers have had problems with the confirmation message link. Those experiencing the problem should copy and paste the link into their browser's address box.
There's also a toll-free number: 1-888-382-1222. But it's only available in states west of the Mississippi River until July seventh, when it goes nationwide.
Enforcement of the do-not-call list will begin in October.
