Triple-A flooded with do-not-call calls
Morgantown, West Virginia-AP -- Trouble at a Triple-A office in West Virginia today, and all because of the new national do-not-call list. At times, all six lines at the Bridgeport office were busy. Callers trying to get the national do-not-call registry misdialed by several digits and got Triple-A instead. By midday, six Triple-A employees had talked to about 500 callers. They say they're having fun chatting with people, but it's expensive. Triple-A has to pay for every toll-free call it gets.
Telephone registration for the do-not-call list -- which prevents most unwanted telemarketing calls -- began west of the Mississippi today. It goes nationwide next month. The CORRECT number is 1-888-382-1222.
