Pentagon a third of way through plan to distribute gas masks

Pentagon-AP -- The Pentagon is a third of the way through its plan to distribute emergency evacuation gas masks to workers.

Some 25-thousand have been distributed so far in the plan to get masks to some 80-thousand people.

The latest to be trained were several dozen reporters who regularly cover the Pentagon. They were given the basic training in how to put on on the emergency masks.

They're actually hoods made of plastic, and they're designed for a one-time use of about an hour during an evacuation after a chemical or biological weapons attack.

Pentagon workers are required to keep the masks handy at their desks. If a high-threat is declared, they're supposed to carry the mask with them at all times. If an emergency is declared, the workers put on the mask for a quick evacuation from the building.
