Russia says spent nuclear fuel will leave Iran for reprocessing

Moscow-AP -- Russia is trying to ease U-S concerns about the nuclear power plant it's building in Iran.

A Russian atomic energy official says all spent fuel from the nuclear reactor will be returned to Russia for reprocessing.

The U-S government fears Iran could extract plutonium from the reactor's spent fuel and make nuclear weapons.

A Russian news agency reports the Iranian and Russian governments are almost ready to sign off on the plan.

News of the deal comes a day after Russia's president and President Bush promised to work together to ensure Iran does not develop a nuclear weapon.
