Husband of bombing victim relieved at news of Rudolph arrest
Undated-AP -- The husband of the woman killed in the Atlanta Olympic Park bombing says the news of Eric Rudolph's arrest was a "very emotional" moment for him. Rudolph is suspected of planting the bomb that killed Alice Hawthorne and injured more than 100 others during the 1996 Olympics.
Appearing on N-B-C's "Today" show, John Hawthorne said he felt Rudolph was alive and hiding in the North Carolina woods but he wasn't optimistic Rudolph would ever be caught.
Rudolph's former sister-in-law tells "Today" she doesn't think the 36-year-old ex-soldier and survivalist had help in eluding authorities for five years. Deborah Rudolph describes him as a "separatist" with "pretty radical" views.
F-B-I Special Agent Chris Swecker won't comment on what Rudolph has said to authorities since his arrest Saturday. But he says Rudolph seems "very calm" and that he's been "enjoying human interaction" in jail.
Swecker says a decision on where Rudolph will be tried could be revealed today.
