More Americans saying, "I want my D-V-D"
Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

Undated-AP -- Sales of D-V-D's and the machines that play them continue to confound the experts. Just listen to the numbers: nearly 232 (m) million D-V-D titles were shipped to retailers in the first quarter of the year, a 93 percent increase over the same period a year ago.

While movies continue to be the big sellers, the D-V-D Entertainment Group, an industry organization, says sales of episodic T-V -- series like "The Sopranos," and "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" -- have been much stronger than expected.

Sales of D-V-D players are still going strong, too. The Consumer Electronics Association says nearly four-and-a-half (m) million machines found their way into homes in the first three months of the year. That's a 24 percent increase over this time last year.

There are now more than 60 (m) million D-V-D players in 43 million American households. Clearly, some families have more than one, whether it's in the minivan, or a second room of the house.
