Erika Chao joined the Eyewitness News Team in December of 2002 as the live morning reporter for "Eyewitness News This Morning". Erika was born in Massachusetts but grew up in the suburbs of Los Angeles, CA. Before joining Eyewitness News, Erika worked as a general assignment reporter for AT&T 3 news in Lowell, Massachusetts and the Worcester, Massachusetts bureau of New England Cable News.

After graduating from Northeastern University with a Bachelor's Degree in Broadcast Journalism, Erika worked as a trade associate at an financial investment company on Boston's North Shore. However, she began to miss reporting and decided to leave the investment business for news.

Erika is thrilled to live and work in Rhode Island where she spent many summers with her family. Erika is active in Rhode Island reading weeks at Rhode Island Schools. When not working, Erika enjoys spending time with her husband and cocker spaniel puppy, Bella. Erika also enjoys cooking, reading, traveling and visiting friends and family.
