Pamela Watts
Pamela Watts is a Rhode Island native and two-time EMMY Award winner for anchoring.
In addition she has twice received EMMY nominations for her coverage of breaking news, as well as for sports special and public affairs program. Her reporting has won first place awards from the National Federation of Press Women, the Massachusetts Medical Society, and the Associated Press. She is one of the first recipients of the Hope Award from the state of Rhode Island, honoring women of leadership.
Pamela began her broadcast journalism career at WPRO radio, while still a student at the University of Rhode Island. She Graduated with high distinction in the honors program, winning URI's Academic Excellence Award in speech communications and the Leonard E. Smith Award for public speaking.
After radio, Pamela joined the staff of Colony Communications "Local Cable News" as anchor, reporter, producer, and news director, covering the events of Southeastern Massachusetts.
She left to become the Massachusetts Bureau chief for WLNE-TV, and eventually went on to anchor for ABC-6 News, and host the prime time news magazine "One on One with Pamela Watts". Pam helped host the Rhode Island Sports Council Awards programs, and the "League of Their Own" Awards honoring accomplishments of Rhode Island women.
On January 2nd, 2001 Pamela launched Rhode Islands first locally produced National Public Radio program on WRNI, as co-host of "One Union Station". She also anchored the midday news and became host of "Focus on Rhode Island", an NPR program exploring the issues, ideas, opinions, arts and culture of the Ocean State.
Pamela is currently anchor of "Eyewitness News This Morning", and a reporter on the Eyewitness News Team.
Pam is active in reading weeks at Rhode Island schools and has worked fundraising for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the Leukemia Society, the Rhode Island Lung Association, and the Rhode Island Heart Association.
Passionate about the arts, Pamela enjoys books and film, music, creative writing and sports. She is currently studying dance and design and loves to cook and garden.
Most importantly, she cherishes raising her son and daughter.
Originally from Warwick, Pamela is a long time resident of the Tiverton/Little Compton area, and currently makes her home in Harrisville.
